If you'd like to create your own Jigsaw puzzles, this tutorial will show you how easy it can be done: goo.gl/Do1us2 using this set of templates. (Note: since creating the video, I have added overlays to create 6, 9, 15 and 20 piece puzzles.)
Jigsaws can be used for tons of different activities in PE and Health.
Here is one example that I've seen used by teachers:
Group your students into as many groups as you'd like. You are in the middle of the gym with the students (in their groups) around you and you have envelopes with puzzles in them. You'll want to have several more puzzles than you have groups.
Have one student from each group come to you to get an envelope (you can use this Locomotor Slide, if you want to let them choose how they move to get to you: goo.gl/ke16qB). You give the student an envelope with the puzzle pieces and they take it back to the group to put it together and see what activity they do. As soon as the whole group completes the activity, they mix up the pieces and return the puzzle to the envelope. A different student then chooses a locomotor skill and returns the envelope to the teacher. The teacher gives the group another envelope and it continues.
Another way to use puzzles is in Health. Have a skills-based question as the puzzle that students have to discuss or act out a solution in their group.
Also, how about some student-created puzzles??
I'm sure that many of you will be innovative and think of additional ways to use the jigsaws. I'd love if you'd share with the greater community any ideas that you have for using this!!
