Flippity in HPE

We have put together this resource that includes information and examples of the many ways Flippity can be used in HPE. 2 of the examples were created using resources shared by Andy Milne (@carmelhealth) and Kait Hall (@MrsKaitlynHall) and our thanks go out to them for the initial shares. The resource includes tutorials and tips, as well as examples that can be edited to meet your students' needs. The Badge Tracker is a very impressive tool and is great for backward design. The example provided offers an option for teaching and assessing the following:

S3.M1.6 Physical Activity Badge

Describes how being physically active leads to a healthy body

S4.M4.6 Encouragement Badge

Accepts differences among classmates in physical development, maturation, and varying skill levels by providing encouragement and positive feedback.

S3.M7.6 Skill-related Fitness

Lap Counter with Time Stamp

Recently Megan Lessert (@LessertMegan) shared how she is counting laps in her classroom using a spreadsheet with a time stamp to help with the problem of scanning twice. I had previously offered an option for doing this, but it didn't include the timestamp. It did include a quick way to create the barcodes for the students, however.

So, I thought that combining the two would result in the most efficient option for teachers.

Part 1: Creating the student bar codes

  1. Get your own copy of this file: bit.ly/2ItupU1 (This is an updated version of the one in my earlier post).

  2. Enter a roster of your students on the "Roster Entry" spreadsheet. As soon as they are entered the nametags are automatically generated.

  3. Access the nametags by clicking the tab at the bottom labeled "Bar Code Name Tags".

Empathy and Inclusion Hyperdoc by Veronica Bonaccorsy

This Empathy and Inclusion hyperdoc (bit.ly/2T8cKGo) gives your students the opportunity to experience various disabilities through the activities included, with the goal of helping students to develop empathy for those with disabilities. Students will learn through viewing media and participating in experiences that simulate the following: learning disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical disabilities, and autism.

For the visual impairment activity students are, again, in partners. You will need something to use as blindfolds and soft balls or objects to toss.

For the hearing impairment experience students will work in pairs. Print and make enough copies of this file: bit.ly/2VdME7H so each student has one quarter piece of paper with a word list and sentences (Word list/sentence list 1 or 2). One student will try to lip-read list 1 and the other student will try to lip-read list 2.

For the physical disabilities experience you will need bean bags and…
